Kovakka Mezhukkupuratti/Kovakka Fry/Tondora fry/Kovakkai Fry



Ingredients

  1. Kovakka/Tindora - 1 cup
  2. Shallots/Chriya Ully/Small onion -10  (Cut into 4 pieces)
        •  OR Onion -1/2 cup
  3. Curry Leaves -1 spring
  4. Red Chilly flakes -1/2 tsp (Optional)
  5. Green Chilly -2
  6. Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
  7. Oil -2 tbsp
  8. Salt to taste

Directions :

  • Wash the Kovakka/Tindora and drain all the water
  • Cut top and bottom of the kovakka and slice it lengthwise or thick rounds
  • Cut the  Shallots into 4 pieces or onion into medium size slices
  • In a pan ,heat the oil and add Mustard seeds.When it pop ups, add the Kovakka ,Green Chilly,Curry leaves and stir occasionally(Reduce the heat into low flame)
  • Cook for 3-5 minutes and then add salt ,onion and mix well 
  • Cook covered for about 5-8 minutes in a low flame and stir in between
  • Then add chilly flakes and cook uncovered about 5 minutes ,stir occasionally
  • Serve with rice.
