Fish Molly/Fish Molee


Ingredients

For Marinating

  1. Fish -1/2 kg
  2. Lemon - 1 
  3. Pepper Powder -1 tsp
  4. Turmeric Power -1/2  tsp   
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Oil for Frying

For Gravy

  1. Onion-2 cup 
  2. Ginger -1 tsp
  3. Garlic -5-8 cloves
  4. Green Chilly - 4
  5. Tomato - 2
  6. Curry Leaves -1 spring
  7. Pepper Powder -1/2 tsp
  8. Coriander Powder -1 tsp
  9. Turmeric Powder -1/4 tsp
  10. Cinnamon/Karuvapatta -2 pieces
  11. Cardamom /Elakka-2
  12. Thick Coconut Milk - 1 cup
  13. Semi Thick Coconut Milk -1 1/2 cup
  14. Mustard seeds/Kaduaku- 1/2 tsp
  15. Fenugreek /Uluva-1/4 tsp
  16. Fennel/Perum Jeerakam -1/4 tsp
  17. Oil -2 tbsp

Directions

  • Clean the fish and cut into thin slices
  • Cut the onion and tomato into medium size slices and keep aside
  • Marinate the fish with turmeric powder,pepper powder,Lemon juice and salt keep it for 15-20 minutes
  • Heat the oil in a pan and shallow fry the fish and keep it aside 
  • In the same pan add 2 tsp oil and heat it (Don't add extra oil if you have more oil after frying the fish)
  • Add mustard seeds ,when it splutter add fenugreek and saute till it become brown
  • Then add onion,ginger ,garlic and curry leaves
  • Saute for few minutes and add the crushed whole spices and powders and mix well.
  • Pour the semi thick coconut milk into the mixture and allow it to boil
  • Add the fried fish and half portion of the tomato slices and cook till gravy become thick
  • Then add the thick coconut milk and remaining tomato and mix it well and cook for few more minutes (Don't bring to boil ) and remove from the fire
  • Adjust the salt and pepper to your taste
  • Serve with Appam ,Rice,Bread etc
