Sambar/sambhar
Ingredients
For Pressure Cook
- Toor dal -1 cup
- Tomato - 1/2 cup
- Garlic - 3 cloves
- Onion -1/2 cup
For Gravy and Seasoning
- Vegetables (Okra,Beans,Carrot,Drum Stick etc ) - 1/4 kg (You can add any vegetables you like)
- Chilly powder- 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder -1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
- Tamarind juice- 1/4 cup
- Sambar powder -2 tsp
- Asafoetida/Kayam -1/2 tsp
- Oil -2 tsp
- Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
- Fenugreek -1/4 tsp
- Curry Leaves -1 spring
- Cilantro /Coriander leaves - 3 tbs
- Onion -1/4 cup
- Tomato -1/4 cup
- Salt to taste
Directions
- Wash and cut the vegetables and keep it aside
- Wash the toor dal and put it into pressure cooker and add Tomato,Garlic and onion and cook for about 3-4 whistles and keep it aside
- Heat the oil in a pan and add Mustard seeds,when it splutter add fenugreek seeds ,Curry leaves and Red chilly
- Saute for 2 minutes
- Add onion and cook till it became brown then add the tomato and cook well
- Add all the spice powders and salt and mix well and cook for 2 minutes
- Add the vegetables and mix well
- Add sufficient water and cook the vegetables nicely
- If you have microwave oven,then cook the vegetables in it for about 4 minutes with a very little water
- When the vegetables are cooked well add the mashed toor dal into it
- Add tamarind juice and cook for about 6-8 minutes
- Add
Asafoetida when it boils nicely
- Adjust the salt to your taste
- Remove it from the fire and garnish with
Cilantro /Coriander leaves
- Serve with Rice,Dosa,Idly etc
